KEY PERSON

★ Dr. Vu Thi Son

Son Vu thin

Dr Vu Thi Son used to work as a researcher on education in the Research Centre for Pedagogy at the National Institute of Educational Science, Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam for 25 years (1979-2004). Her main focus was on primary level teaching and learning. Her first doctoral thesis addressed the topic “The relationship between family and teacher and its impact on Year 1-2 students’ achievements”. She also gained the second Ph.D. degree in Education and International Development at the Institute of Education, University of London with the thesis “Improving teaching and learning for health in multi-grade schools in Vietnam”. She completed the Bachelor of Physics Teaching at Hanoi II University of Education. For the last ten years she has worked as a senior researcher at Hanoi National University of Education (HNUE) and involved in research projects on a research-based teacher education model that prepares teachers for educational innovation after 2015 in Vietnam. She has publications Lesson Study in national journals.

 

★ Mr. Vu Tri Ngu

Vu Tri Ngu

Mr Vu Tri Ngu held various positions in education sector before becoming a vice head of Primary Education Division, Department of Education and Training, Bac Giang Province, Vietnam. After being exposed to LSLC in 2006, Mr Ngu moved to work as a school leader in a couple of primary schools. Most notably, by implementing Lesson Study for Learning Community (LSLC), he led Nghia Phuong Primary School – one of the lowest performing schools in the district with huge relational problems among the teachers – to rank 6th after 3 years (2008-2011). In the current workplace, he made a strong push so that LSLC has become the province’s policy at primary school level.

 

★ Mr. Phan The Si

Mr Phan The Si is currently a vice director of Yen Dung District Bureau of Education and Training, Bac Giang Province, Vietnam. Beforehand, he worked as a teacher-in-charge for the respective provincial level department. Mr Si first experienced LSLC in 2006. Since then, he has been an enthusiastic promoter of LSLC. From 2007-2010, he successfully turned around a low performing primary school where he served as a principal. He has been a part-time consultant for Plan Vietnam and trainer for the Ministry of Education and Training regarding LSLC since 2010. He also co-authored a LSLC guide in Vietnamese.

 

 Mr. Nguyen Van Khoi

Nguyen Van Khoi

Mr Nguyen Van Khoi is currently a vice principal of Minh Khai primary school, Bac Giang City, Bac Giang Province, Vietnam. Beforehand, he worked as a teacher-in-charge for the respective provincial level department and an officer of Bac Giang City Bureau of Education and Training. Mr Khoi first experienced Lesson Study for Learning Community (LSLC) in 2006. Since then, he has been an enthusiastic promoter of LSLC, serving as a part-time consultant for Plan Vietnam and the Ministry of Education and Training. He has published articles in the national Journal of Education and Society and also co-authored a LSLC guideline in Vietnamese.

 

 Ms. Khong Thi Diem Hang

Khong Thi Diem Hang

Ms Khong Thi Diem Hang is a collaborating researcher of the Institute for Research on Educational Development, Vietnam. Ms Hang has supported the promotion of LSLC in Vietnam since 2006 by connecting leading Japanese scholars and practitioners with Vietnamese teachers, local educational authorities at all levels and non-governmental organisations. She also serves as a coordinator and local participant analyst for a 2-year Toyota research project on school reform in Vietnamese schools from 2012 to 2014. Her research interests include school reform, LSLC, teacher professional development, children learning, learning support, and education in Vietnam.
